Usher Gallery and the Museum of Lincolnshire Life.
The Friends of Lincoln Museum & Art Gallery subscribe to the
British Association of Friends of Museums (BAfM).

The Collection: The archaeological collection covers 300,000 years of history from the earliest
inhabitants of Lincolnshire to the Eighteenth Century. Some highlights of the collections are prehistoric
finds from the River Witham, treasures from Anglo-Saxon burials and finds from Lincoln's rich Roman,
Viking and Medieval heritage.
Acquisition of a Unique find by Lincolnshire Metal Detector for the Collection fully Funded by the Friends.
The intact Roman Horse Brooch found at Leasingham and offered generously by the finder to the
Collection at a valuation of £5000 has been funded by the Friends in celebration of their 50th year
supporting The Lincoln Museums and Art Gallery.

The Usher Gallery: A wide-ranging collection of fine and decorative art including paintings by Turner,
Lowry, Stubbs, Reynolds, De Wint, Logsdail, Brannan, Bramley, Clausen, Hilton, Warrener, and by
contemporary artists such as Grayson Perry, Edward Allington Terry Frost and Edmond De Waal. It also
has the iconic portrait of Sir Joseph Banks by Benjamín West.
The Gallery also houses James Usher’s notable collection of watches and fine collections of clocks and
18th century Derby porcelain.
The Museum of Lincolnshire Life: A rich social history collection which reflects the culture of
Lincolnshire and its people from 1750 to the present day. The collection of agricultural and industrial
machinery, including a WW1 tank, display the contribution Lincolnshire’s engineering industries made to
the County’s prosperity. The museum of the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment is also housed here
